The Jones Family
One Saturday before the end of summer last year we invited local people to our home for Coffee and Cakes in order to raise money toward the building of a new Hospital for Haiti.
This was part of a wider fundraising effort planned for the communities of Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and the surrounding areas for building one of the wings in a new hospital construction project on the island of La Gonave in Haiti.
We set up a gazebo at the front of our house, various tables on decking in the back garden, more tables in the kitchen than usual and also tables and chairs in the front room too, once the settees and a TV were moved elsewhere.
There was enough seating for 40 and with a sitting from 10am until noon and from 2-4pm we were very pleased to have had about 60 visitors in total on the day and because the weather was fine most of those that wanted to were able to be served outside.
With the Gift Aid that it was possible to attract, a total of £1,100 was raised from our wee Coffee and Cake fundraising effort.
We would like to encourage others that are thinking about some sort of a fundraising effort for this worthy cause to just simply go for it.
